Current Connection 3.2

In the article "Should Punches to the Chest be Illegal in female MMA fights?" by Eric Holden, Some women think chest punches should be illegal and some woman think they should be legal. Female MMA fighters risk damaging their sternum and their breast tissue when they get punched hard in the chest. However the fighters, opinion about the issue is varied.

Auttumn Norton thinks punches to the "chestto" should be banned because she got "punched so hard in the chest during a resent training session that injured her sternum." If Norton had been wearing protection she wouldn't have gotten injured.

Kentucky WMMA fighter Gina Begley "thinks chest shots should only be illegal if they are done one purpose." I agree with her because when you try to hurt someone that is just bad sportsmanship.

On the other hand Heather Clark, Bellator and XFC vet says that she "sometimes wears a turtle bra for MMA fights" because " it has hard plastic cups in it." Obviously woman fighters know its important to protect there chest. Women who don't wear protection know they are taking their own risk of getting injured .

Most competitive sports use protective gear. Football players wear helmets and pads. Soccer players wear shin guards. Volleyball players wear knee pads. When I play soccer, I make sure I use my protection.

To sum up, chest punches for female MMA fighters should not be banned. Fighters should wear protection like other woman do in competitive sports. If they do not and get hurts its is there fault.

Current Connection 3.1

In the article "Women's groups, lawmakers say MMA promotes a culture of violence" by Jessica String, Lawmaker's and women's advocacy oppose a bill that would allow mixed martial arts fighting events in New York State. They believe that MMA promotes "violent behavior" and victimizes woman

In the article assembly woman Ellen Jaffee says "cage has no place in a civilized society because it harms the fighters who risk their life's". I have watched MMA fights. It is pretty bad because it ruins your face.It leaves it swollen and bruised up. A fighter can be seriously injured because he or she receives brutal hits in the face or any other part of the body with knees or elbows. Senator Liz Krueger say that "It's almost a model of supported free for all violence." MMA is probably not a model sport for children especially young boys.

Another concern about MMA is the glorification of distorted masculinity that victimized women. Quinton Rampage Jackson mad a video in which he " jokingly pretends to attempt to rape a women with chloroform and zip ties." Zenaida Mendez, president of the national Organization for women said "they go out there and think that it's okay to violate women, it's okay to physical assault women, it's okay to rape women." Men have to respect women. The behavior described by Mendez is criminal. A sport that promotes violence and criminal behavior should be looked out carefully before it is supported as a professional event.

However Steven Green berg form Green burg Public Relation's said "fighters are not the only professional athletes who have been less than a role model". He uses football players, Hollywood entertainers as his examples. What Green burg says is true. Almost every professional sport has players who break laws.

MMA makes a connection with the world. There are people who are dedicate their time to do MMA fighting such as women and men. Also people enjoy watching MMA fighting while they bet on fighters. My friend Oscar Valdez is devoted to MMA fighting and keeps working up to become a professional fighter , which he is being successful at it.

Therefore MMA creates concern about the violence that is part of the sport. That violence is part of its appeal. If this sport is going to receive creditably rules and regulations should be made strictly followed.

The Present and Future Dream

My Present and Future Dream
Getting a Social Security number is going to change my life and open opportunities that I did not have before. Working legally, being able to get a driving license, and getting school finance aid are three examples.
Many illegal immigrants all over the world move to United States of America for better opportunities. In order for immigrants to get a job, they use a fake Social Security number, which is illegal, but it is the only way to get a job, having a Social Security number. The majority of illegal immigrants in the U.S.A live with the fear of being deported back to their home.
Another fear of immigrants is driving without driving licenses. If a cop was to stop someone for driving without a license, they could get sent to jail; then get deported for being illegal. Without insurance, immigrants drive with even more fear of having car accidents. If they were to get in a car wreck they would have to pay with money from their own pocket. Depending on the situation of the accident, if it was caused by drunk driving, they be sent to jail and even deported.
The biggest struggle for an illegal student is getting a good career. They are not able to get school financial aid. Nor can they apply for scholarships and get the education they want, because it costs too much money. Many immigrants choose to go straight to any job available and most just drop out of school because they believe they do not have any hope of doing better than just any job available.

Getting a Social Security number will open doors for me that were shut before. I will be working legally without the fear of being deported. Being able to get a driver license will help me get to work without depending on my family or friends to drive m. Also, being able to get school financial aid will help me be able to pay for college. I will be able to pursue my dreams  with no obstacles thanks to “The Dream Act”.

Current Connection 1.1

In Max Ehrenhreund's article "Felony charges for school bulling place Florida in ' uncharged territory'," The author reveals that a decision by a Florida sheriff to arrest two girls ages 12 and 14, on felony charges for bulling a classmate until she committed suicide has divided experts.
The tragedy in this case is that a 12 year old girl died because of a 14 year old was dating a boy who had been seeing Sedwick, and his previous relationship made the 14 year old uncomfortable. So she began bulling Sedwich and Sedwick's friends.Sedwick's friends turn against her and "ostracized" her. The 12 year old in the case, who was once a friend of Sedwick, started to fight with her and beat her. "Despite the extreme and sustained nature of the abuse Sedwick received." experts were surprised that the girls were charged with a felony.
Jealousy is no excuse for bulling no matter what age or situation. I wonder if the 12 year old who was arrested was also bullied by the 14 year old also. She showed "remorse" over Rebecca Ann Sedwick's death. The older girl posted on Face book that she knew she bullied Rebecca and she killed herself but she didn't care.
Nadine Connell, a criminologist at the University of Texas at Dallas, said "adolescents are to immature to understand the consequences of bulling." Even if they don't understand the consequences of period of bulling is wrong. Connell suggest that parents and school official had an obligation to intervene earlier. My question is why couldn't they do anything? Apparently the parents and school officials ignored the situation and now a 12 year old is dead.
Other experts argue that parents need to know about their children's actions. Sue Scheff, who runs P.U.R.E, a resource group of parents with troubled youth, said "I think parents need to wake up and be shaking up a little bit."
I agree, but sometimes parents don't see the bad in their child wouldn't behave that way. This should warn parents that the child they know and the child social media could be totally different.
Could this tradagey been prevented ? since the abuse was "extreme and substained" people knew what was happening. So, yes.
Why didn't someone help this desperate little girl? The people who were a wear of the situation should have taken measures to protect Sedwick. Parents can take away phones, monitor their children's social media sites, ask teachers to help them watch for signs of bulling. If parents and school official would do this thing there would be less chances of this situation occurring again.

Book Review : Clean by Amy Reed

Amy Reed, The Book Clean interests me with its touching feelings of addicts. Addicts who have hit rock bottom and been stuck together in rehab to face their problems, face sobriety and face themselves. None of the addicts like to talk about the truth about their past. Nor they like to share their darkest secrets and fears with a room of strangers.
A group of adolescents are addicts at first they are strangers to one another. Each one of them came from somewhere that they felt was their last stopping point and that they had nowhere to go, because of that they turned to their various addictions as comforts in the absence of what they lacked. But they learn to get along and learn about each other in the group session where they talk about their life stories. I learned that if you make a miss take there is no reason to hurt your self by blaming yourself or others. I like the book it is interesting how different this teens have faced bad situations that made them lead to the same consequence of being addicted to a drugs. One of characters from the book is Olivia she is addicted to pills she takes diet pills to get skinnier, at first she thinks she is different from everybody else in the rehab center because she says its not " a real drug" but she really is not she also has to face the fact that is also an addict. Olivia does not like anybody at the rehab center she does not talk to them at first she is always trying to work on school work and takes any time she can to do her homework. They don't really have time to do anything they have a schedule and do certain activities and group talks. The writer makes me believe in them as people because this are actual things that happen to many people , they become addicts to drugs or other things.
Olivia says " I don't understand what's so wrong about wanting to do my ******* homework. What's wrong with you people? Just because I'm focused and give a ****about my life and want to succeed, you think there's something wrong with me? Just because I'm different from all the losers in here?"

"I come from a whole society of perfect people." Compared to everyone in here, I might as well be from a different planet.
This book connects to people around the world with addiction and trying stay sober form their recovery of their addictions. To stay strong and not get tempted to go back on the wrong path of hitting rock bottom.
I recommend this book learn about how different people struggle in life like Olivia, Kelly,Christopher, Jason and Eve do they hit rock bottom or they learn to stay clean and sober?

Current Event : 'Now's the time' to move on immigration,

In a recent article by Corey Dade, A national correspondent for the NPR Digital News , entitled " Obama Lays Out Immigration Plan But Avoids Thorny Issues"   informs Obama finally giving "a route to citizenship for the more than 11 million illegal immigrants living in the U.S.

"The good news if for the first time in many years, Republicans and Democrats seem ready to tackle this problem together," Obama said in Las Vegas. "The question is do we have the resolve as a people, as a country, as a government, to finally put this issue behind us? I believe if we resolve as a people, as a country, as a government we can obtain something good of it and then put the issue behind us.

"Of course I wanted more," says Kica Matos, a spokeswoman for the pro-immigrant group Fair Immigration Reform Movement. "We want to hear, for those of us who have been working so hard for long time frames, specifics of the legislation, exactly how we're going to get at citizenship. But we're certainly heartened that the speech happened in the first place and that the president finally, in a very public way, is taking this on."  Illegal immigrants have been waiting for a opportunity to get citizenship so that we can work and drive with out fear. Some many illegal immigrants have been working so hard for a long time and have the hope that some day we will have the opportunity get citizenship.

"Obama did warn lawmakers, however, that he'd "send up my own proposal and insist that they vote on it right away" if they steer negotiations on a bill into partisan gridlock." I believe that its good that Obama is commited to obtain something that has always been promised by some president have left the issue behind.

As an Hispanic student I have been waiting for this opportunity to be able to get a good education, and job and be able to get citizeship.

If we resolve this issue as a country i believe we can obtain something good of it , it can be good for the economy and other things .

My American Dream

To honor Dr. Martin Luther King know for his famous speech "I have a Dream" I am writing about the dream I have. My dream is to graduate, to get a better job, and to keep studying at a good college and get a career. When I have obtained those goals, My American dream will be a success.I plan to graduate like many other students.

Graduating is not the plan for some students. The reason is because they struggle a lot in school, and do not ask for help, or they have problems at their home. I can not say I do not struggle in school because I would be lying to myself; which I do not let it get to me. I ask for help, So I can understand what I am having trouble working on. I ask my friend, Geydi for help. She is good at studying and makes good grades. She helps me not fall behind in my subjects in school. Thanks to the help I have gotten, I am ready for my senor year to do even better so I can graduate.

Saving up for college mean doing a lot of work. I currently work in McDonald's a fast food restaurant. I can not say I love my job because I do not. The employees I work with are nice and so are the manager's. What I do not like about working at McDonald's is that I have to do the same thing every single day I work. I do drive through when I work in McDonald's. I do not even ask what I am going to be doing, because I know to get a head set and start taking orders. I do not enjoy doing it. I get tired of it all the time. That is why I would like to graduate and get a good career. Something I love to do like perform as a dancer.

I plan to still work at McDonald's but just to save enough money to go to college. Then on to a good college to get the studies I need to be able to get a good Career and do what I enjoy doing. The good thing about having a career is that even if you have to do the same thing every day of your career job, you do not mind at all because its something you enjoy doing.

To graduate, to get a better job, and to go to a good college is My American dream. If I achieve that dream, someday my name may be scrolling across the screen at movie theaters.
